Well i have a Frontal Lobe Brain injury.I’m 19 and i want to start going to bars with my friends.I feel no urgue to drink and i personally do not like it at all, but i feel pressured into it as EVERYONE i know does it even people i never expected.I feel if i dont do it that i am a loser,especially being 19.So what are the effects of drinking with a Tbi?

The disinhibition from the alcohol may be even more pronounced with a frontal lobe injury. It could be very, very risky, indeed. Drinking alcohol with your TBI would be foolish, to say the least. The people that are pressuring you are the “losers” – not you! If you want to participate socially with your friends at the bar – go ahead. Simply order a soda and leave it at that. You owe them NO explanation whatsoever – other than the fact that you are mature enough to make your own decisions.

With frontal lobe injuries you might find that you have issues with impulse control, judgment, language, memory, social and sexual behavior, etc. Couple this with alcohol and you may be very uninhibited (which could be dangerous). You might find that you have poorer judgment and that you are more impulsive. I recommend not drinking with a TBI. Especially if you don’t know the crowd very well. If you are less impulsive, people could take advantage of that. Don’t let your friends pressure you into drinking. If they can’t deal with you going out and not drinking then they aren’t really good friends. If you tell them that you shouldn’t due to medical reasons, and they still pressure you, I would find a better crowd. Your health comes first.
Someone keeps giving these answers a thumbs down, and I’m assuming it’s because I’m not telling you to give into peer pressure and drink, even if you don’t want to.

Probably should have posted this question in a medical forum. I would say that it’s hard to tell since these injuries are so coplex. The only way you will know is by drinking. What has your doctor said? Don’t drink if you don’t want to though. You have the perfect excuse to stay sober and be the DD.
